チョコレートの製造過程で取り除かれる、カカオ豆の皮をアップサイクルしている晴山健史さん。これまでカカオ豆の皮は、飼料や肥料に活用されていました。しかし、カカオ豆の皮をコースターや花瓶などに生まれ変わらせ、カカオの実を丸ごと使い切ることで、カカオに新たな価値を見いだしました。児童労働や森林減少などカカオの産地が抱える社会課題を解決するべく、今後も取り組んでいきたいと語る、晴山さんの思い描く未来とは？
Mr. Takeshi Hareyama upcycles the husks of the cacao bean which are discarded in the chocolate-making process. Until now the husks were used in feed for animals and fertilizer, but using the entire bean by upcycling the husks into things like coasters and flower vases, new value has been added to the bean. Mr. Hareyama says that he would like to work towards solving social issues faced by cacao-producing regions such as child labor and deforestation. What kind of future does he envision?
